'No Sense of Urgency'

The official in charge of governmental relief funds in Indonesia is “shocked” at the lack of reconstruction progress in the Aceh province, fully five months after the Indian Ocean tsunami.

BBC News reports that Kuntoro Mangkusubroto primarily blames bureaucratic wrangling for the delays. “There is no sense of urgency,” he said.

    No only, nor primarily, no sense of urgency -- but no accountability.
    No annual, quarterly, or especially monthly reports, of what was done, by whom.

    The UN and all “aid” agencies, especially gov’t sponsored, should have official web sites with the full project of each project funded, and the measurable results expected. And the measures of those results.

    Merely creating a public record will hugely increase the effectiveness. If that was the ONLY reform of the UN, it would likely work so well that no other reforms would be so pushed for.
