Raymond Arroyo, host of EWTN’s World Over program, has invited Acton President Rev. Robert A. Sirico on the show tonight (Thurs., Feb. 17, 8 p.m. Eastern) to discuss the federal budget as a “moral document” and the mounting federal deficit. And no doubt the conversation will explore other important faith and policy issues of the day.

Thank God for the intelligence of Fr. Sirico. He is correct when he states that “the MARKET is the normative way that people rise from poverty.”

He is also correct when he points out that redistribution of wealth is not the right approach to help people. People improve their lot in life by access to wealth, not by charity. When people start businesses and create jobs, these people are doing much more for poor people than just handing them charity.

Yes, there are times when charity is important, but more importantly, create jobs and opportunities for people to improve their lives. As they excel and move up in the companies they work for. They earn more and create better lives thru their own work.

God gives us all blessings. Each and every one of us has been given special gifts from God. The politicians who get people hooked on petty government hand outs do people a great disservice, because these people become to dependent on government hand outs that they fail to discover the gifts that God gave them!!
