In Praise of the Book . . . On World Book and Copyright Day

What would our life be without books? Books teach, entertain, encourage and give invaluable perspectives that allow each of us to grow and deepen our life and faith. If we asked every person who will read this blog post about their favorite book, we would get a rich tapestry of stories full of warm memories.

And we are not alone in our love for books. Read a few of these wonderfully emotive quotes:

The things I want to know are in books; my best friend is the man who’ll get me a book I ain’t read.
Abraham Lincoln

You can’t get a cup of tea big enough or a book long enough to suit me.
C. S. Lewis

There is no friend as loyal as a book.
Ernest Hemingway

The On Call in Culture community is based on Abraham Kuyper’s work presented in Wisdom and Wonder. We believe that a key part of being On Call where we are planted is our ongoing reading and learning. So in celebration of World Book and Copyright Day, we thought we would challenge you to step out and share with our On Call in Culture Community a few of the ways that books have impacted you.

Visit the On Call in Culture Facebook page and share “Three Ways Books Have Impacted Your Life for the Better” and we will pick two of the entries at the end of the day to get a pack of various books (including Wisdom and Wonder) from Christian’s Library Press. This is a great opportunity to share with our community the power of the printed word and also get some amazing resources from Acton Institute.

While you are there, make sure to like the On Call in Culture Community and be a part of our group as we strive to bless the world where God has planted us.
